Handmade Soaps & More
Years ago we had the thought, “I wonder how soap was made before you could buy it in the store.” From this thought spawned a hobby we had no idea would continue even this long. For many reasons we continue to make our own soap, further self reliance, artistic outlet, chemistry lesson for our daughters, freedom to customize how we want, save money, you get the idea. Two of the big reasons we do it though are these, using as much of an animal as possible to honor its sacrifice, and it is a superior product to store bought soaps. Our soaps are largely based around tallow or lard derived from the very animals we raise. We have expanded from making 100% tallow soaps to include items like organic shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, almond oil and others. The additions of these organic oils make for a more complete soap in our opinion. Although we make animal based soaps, we can certainly make a vegan friendly product by request, additionally, we can also make a plain 100% unscented and uncolored tallow soap as well.
We challenge you, next time you are looking at bar soap in the grocery store check the labels carefully. You will find they say “deodorant bar” or “cleansing bar” or something of the sort. That is because they are technically NOT soaps. Our soaps are a superior product that once you use it, you can’t go back.
For a long time we were making tallow based lotion bars, and although we liked them, they just weren’t quite what we were looking for. Then, one day, a favorite lotion of the girls was discontinued and we sought to make our own. The resulting product was incredible and we are so excited to share it with you. Made with coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, vitamin e oil, and jojoba oil, your skin just drinks up this lotion. Our ingredients do not include chemical emulsifiers or water, just natural plant based oils and butters, whipped up to a smooth consistency.
